In November 2019, protests spread across Iran due to a sudden fuel price increase, and the government’s security forces responded with intense violence. In Mahshahr, protesters who hid in nearby reed marshes were brutally attacked, leading to many tragic deaths in what became known as the “Mahshahr Reed Massacre.” This collaborative installation, inspired by this event, uses bamboo and dried leaves to recreate the feeling of the marshes, symbolizing the loss of life. Awarded 1st place for its emotional impact, this piece honors the memory of those lost in a simple, powerful way.
