Artist Statement
Describing the world from a human’s point of view, especially the complexities of human experience, nature, and cultural identity, can be a difficult task. Yet, for me, art has always been the one word that captures it all. From a young age, art has been my most profound form of expression, starting with sketching imaginary characters and evolving into a deeper exploration of personal, social, and cultural themes. Today, I use art as a medium to confront the significant issues of our time, women’s rights, environmental concerns, and mental health, focusing particularly on the challenges faced by Iranian society.
I see art as a bridge between the past and present, using ancient Persian symbols to shed light on modern struggles. In Feminine Rebirth, I reimagine Persian goddesses as modern icons of resistance, linking the strength of women throughout history to the fight for autonomy today. Through sculptural forms and jewelry, these figures become modern-day warriors, reclaiming identity in the face of control. My piece Veil of Silence confronts the suffocating impact of Iran’s compulsory hijab, capturing both oppression and the defiance that lives within it.
The natural world also speaks to my art. In works like Okeanos and Green Guardians, I use organic materials to explore the fragility and resilience of nature, mirroring the vulnerability of human rights in my homeland. These pieces are my way of connecting the quiet power of nature with the strength of human resilience.
Art, for me, is more than just an expression; it is a conversation about survival, resilience, and transformation. My practice combines traditional techniques such as ceramics, sculpture, and jewelry-making, all grounded in a deep understanding of materials like clay, wood, and metals. These tactile elements allow me to explore themes of resistance, identity, and nature through physical forms that carry emotional weight.
Over time, I have built a strong foundation in these mediums and continually challenge myself to experiment with new approaches that push the boundaries of my storytelling. Through my MFA studies, I aim to refine my technical skills and deepen my engagement with the social and environmental issues that drive my work. My goal is to create art that not only invites viewers to confront the struggles of Iranian women and the fragility of our natural world but also contributes to a larger dialogue on freedom, resilience, and identity.
